Pierre Caille

Born in Tournai (BE) in 1911 and died in Linkebeek (BE) in 1996, Pierre Caille attended sculpture classes at the Academy of Fine Arts before enrolling in the National School of Architecture and Decorative Arts of La Cambre in Brussels. With the encouragement of Henry Van de Velde, he joined the ceramics workshop that he went on to direct from 1949 to 1976. He is interested in many techniques, producing paintings and jewels as well as engravings. Heir to a tradition of burlesque, derisive mockery and surrealist fantasy, he alone illustrates the world of creative belgitude.
