Biography

Kurt Ryslavy (°1961, Austrian) has been living in Brussels since over 30 years. Known as a skilled contemporary artist, a talented painter, diligent writer and poet, Kurt Ryslavy is also a self-employed entrepreneur as merchant and importer of Austrian wines. Incorporating this two totally distinct but very complementary activities, Kurt utilizes this ambiguity as artistic inspiration to create his paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos and books. The work of Kurt Ryslavy is well known and has been exhibited for many years in Austria, Belgium and abroad (USA, South Corea, Netherlands, France). Among the long list of solo exhibitions figure “‘Verkaufswerk N° 18”, BOZAR, 1997 (Brussels, BE); “Seul dans l’art troublé”, “Le Commissariat”, 2009 (Paris, FR); “Nothing is readymade”, BOZAR, 2012 (Bruxelles, BE); “Kurt Ryslavy: Flemish Art Assets”, Emily Harvey Foundation, 2012 (NY, USA); “Tu m’aides à peindre?”, De Garage, 2016 (Mechelen, BE); “Viennoiseries”, Etablissement d’enfance », 2017 (Brussels, BE) and “Nessuna speranza nessuna Paura”, Vincent Van Gogh huis, 2018 (Zundert, NL). Besides he participated as well in an impressive number of group shows such as “Sculpture Projects Münster ‘97” 1997 (Münster DE); “L’Autriche Visionnaire”, BOZAR, 1998 (Brussels, BE); «Artists in Residence», Neue Galerie, 2000 (Graz, AUS); “Incubation”, (Brugge, BE) 2002; “Painted Objects”, CCNOA-Center for Contemporary Non-Objective Art, 2006 (Brussels, BE); “Europa” Kunsthaus Zürich (Zürich, CH) 2015, “ARTZUID -Internationale Sculptuur Biënnale of Amsterdam”, 2017, (Amsterdam, NL); “BXL universel”, Centrale for Contemporary Art, 2017 (Brussels, BE); “Het is geen kunst fake news te maken”, Mieke Van Schaijk Gallery , 2018 (s’Hertogensbosch, NL). In Belgium, his artworks are part of the Herman Daled’s collection, the Herbert Foundation (a private contemporary art foundation including the collection and archives of Annick and Anton Herbert) and part of the museum collection of the S.M.A.K (Museum of Contemporary Art) situated in Ghent, BE.
