Juan Pablo Plazas (°1987, Colombian, based in Brussels, BE) is both an artist and anthropologist.
His practice arises from a deep interest in the relationship between humans and objects, creating work which explores the inherent connections between language, manufactured objects and consumer society.
In 2014 Plazas received his Master’s degree from LUCA School of Arts in Brussels, BE. In the same year he was granted the Jan Naaijkens Prize from Het Noordbrabants Genootschap (North Brabant Society) in the Netherlands for most talented young artist.
Recent exhibitions include shows at DMW Artspace (Antwerp, 2017, BE), Mieke Van Schaijk gallery (‘s-Hertogenbosch, 2017, NL), Bureau des Réalités (Brussels, 2016, BE), 105 BESME (Brussels, 2015, BE), These Things Take Time (Ghent, 2015, BE) and Temporary Art Centre – TAC (Eindhoven, 2015, NL).
His work has been included in a number of important collections both in Belgium and abroad (amongst others in the private collection of the renowned Brussels based collector Frédéric de Goldschmidt).
